History of Everton Football ClubEverton started life in 1870 as a school team known as St Domingo's, and being renamed in 1879 as Everton Football Club.
Everton became a successful team and it was soon decided that they needed a new ground, as Stanley Park became too small to host the 2000+ crowd that came to see them, and so a move to Priory Road soon followed. The move to Priory Road was short lived, and Everton were soon playing in a field off the now famous Anfield Road.
Everton's stay at Anfield was not a permanent one. After the owner of Anfield imposed a huge increase in rent, Everton decided to move to Mere Green Field, in Stanley Park, which was then waste land. With Everton members toil and dedication, the waste land was turned into England's first purpose built Football stadium, known as Goodison Park, where as we know, the team still resides.
Everton (nicknamed the toffees) had varying fortunes in the following years, with recent history showing the winning of the English League and success in Europe. The current manager of Everton is David Moyes, bought in by the board in 2002. Moyes has had relative success too, taking Everton back into Europe and respectable positions in the league.
A major event in for Everton was a young local boy called Wayne Rooney. A rising star, Rooney scored his first Everton goal at the age of 16, and was soon named in the England squad. Rooney however, left Everton in 2004 for a record breaking fee, to make is fortune and forge a career down the East Lancs Road, to Manchester United. Strong and skilled, he is currently hailed as a promising young striker for both Manchester United and England, his true potential, remaining to be seen.
Everton are currently well established in the fore front of English football, with a staunch set of loyal supporters and you will still find happy and loyal Everton fans all over the world.
