Sateen vs. Percale Stitching: What’s the Difference in Your Bedding?
When it comes to choosing the perfect bed sheets, there are two key considerations: the fabric and the weave both play a big role in how your bedding looks, feels, and lasts. Two popular weaving styles you’ll encounter are sateen and percale. But what exactly do these terms mean?
Percale: Crisp, Cool, and Classic
Percale is a plain weave following a simple one thread over, one thread under pattern creating a matte finish and a lightweight, breathable fabric. This tight, grid-like structure gives percale its signature crisp feel. It’s ideal for hot sleepers or warm climates due to its cool and airy nature. Some of our best-selling percale stitched items our percale fitted sheets due to the soft material and the breathable weave.
Key Features:
- Lightweight and breathable
- Matte finish
- Durable and resists pilling
- Wrinkles easily (but softens over time)
Sateen: Smooth, Silky, and Luxe
Sateen uses a satin weave which is typically three or four threads over, one under. This results in a soft, lustrous finish. This weave gives sateen sheets a heavier, smoother feel, making them perfect for cooler climates or those who prefer a silky touch against the skin. Some of our sateen products are our fitted sheets and duvet cover sets

Which One Is Right for You?

At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference. Both weaves have lots to offer. Whether you’re a hot sleeper or a texture enthusiast, there’s a perfect sheet waiting for you.
